Call for Papers "One world, many worlds?" Ethics and Global Politics Volume 2, Issue 4 (December 2009) __________________________________________________ What do we mean by pluralism? In the last few decades political theorists have increasingly emphasized pluralism as a premise for democratic theory and for the global political order at large. While much has been said about the political implications of such a premise, less has been said about what is meant by pluralism and what it consists of. What do we mean when we say that politics must accommodate pluralism? Most commonly pluralism embraces an idea of conflict. But if this is the case, what are the conditions of conflict and of incommensurable religious and moral doctrines, and how are such conditions reflected in our thinking about pluralism in politics, ethics and morality? Does pluralism always have to imply conflict? Are there ways of conceiving plurality that have not been sufficiently addressed in theoretical terms? If so, what implications could they have for understanding global politics? These are the kinds of questions that the special issue One world, many worlds? wishes to address. We welcome contributions that seek to explore and understand pluralism in relation to the political, moral and ethical problems that inhabit todays conflictual political world. Accepted papers will be published in volume 2, issue 4, which is due out in December 2009. Submission deadline: 7 July 2009. Ethics and Global Politics is an Open Access, peer reviewed scholarly journal published by Co-Action Publishing with support from The Swedish Research Council and the Department of Political Science at Stockholm University, Sweden. Ethics & Global Politics looks to foster theoretical contributions to the study of global politics by providing a forum for presenting novel ways of understanding and conceptualizing the global political challenges the world faces today. The editors welcome articles from a broad range of disciplines, among them political science, philosophy, sociology, history, and legal and gender studies. This range makes Ethics and Global Politics essential reading for graduate students, researchers, professionals, and policy-makers who are interested in contemporary political problems and how they transgress regional and national borders.
