Call for Applications "Cultural Transformations in the Age of Globalization" (CULTRANS) 8 Doctoral Fellowships University of Oslo Oslo (Norway) __________________________________________________ Up to 8 Doctoral Fellowships (SKO/post code 1017) associated with "Cultural Transformations in the Age of Globalization" (CULTRANS) are being advertised at The Faculty of Humanities and The Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway. One of these doctoral fellowships will be associated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. Up to seven doctoral fellowships will be associated with the Faculty of Humanities. In the autumn of 2008, University of Oslo established the research programme CULTRANS with the participation of several faculties. CULTRANS aims to strenghten research on cultural transformations in an age of globalization. A key focus of the programme will be concepts and representations of the world. The research will be transdisciplinary, transnational and transhistorical. The doctoral fellows who are appointed to the positions will form a focal group in CULTRANS. Candidates for these positions must offer a project which is clearly connected to the CULTRANS programme (see www.cultrans.uio.no/english/) and in addition to one or more of its research areas: - Migration, identity and language http://www.cultrans.uio.no/temaer/migration.html - Foundational texts http://www.cultrans.uio.no/english/areas/foundational.html - Nature and the natural http://www.cultrans.uio.no/english/areas/nature.html - Cultural production: form, knowlegde, practice http://www.cultrans.uio.no/english/areas/culture.html - Transnational processes, legitimacy, values http://www.cultrans.uio.no/english/areas/transnational.html Applicants must have a Master degree, or equivalent. The positions are available for a period of three years. The positions must be taken up by 1st September 2009. Candidates who are accepted must participate in Facultys researcher education programme (cf. regulations and supplementary provisions for the facultys researcher education) and must also engage in the designated research activities. The successful candidates are expected to affiliate with the research milieu associated with CULTRANS. The designated aim of the project is to complete a doctoral dissertation to be defended at a public disputation for the Ph.D.-degree. In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description and on the assumed academic and personal ability on the part of the candidates to complete the dissertation within the given time frame.
