Call for Applications "Social Justice in International Climate Change Policy" Postgraduate Studentship Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and ESRC Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, London School of Economics (LSE) London (UK) __________________________________________________ The following PhD fellowship at the LSE is of interest to students with expertise in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and/or Environmental Sciences. The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment & the ESRC Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy at LSE are offering a MPhil/PhD studentship in the area of "Social Justice in International Climate Change Policy" for entry in 2009. The studentship will cover full fees and annual living expenses, currently set at £15,290. This project will examine aspects of social justice in international climate change policy. A background in philosophy, political theory, or a related discipline is essential. The student will be part of a group studying 'Equitable Mitigation and Adaptation'. The project should address issues of fairness related to international financing, carbon markets, the Clean-Development Mechanism, mitigation versus adaptation or migration, political decision-making, or any other aspect of climate change policy. The studentship is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and in order to be eligible for full fees and living allowance students must meet the UK residency requirement. The award will be made solely on outstanding academic merit and research potential. This relates not only to your past academic record, but also to an assessment of your chosen topic and to your likely aptitude to complete a PhD in the time allocated. Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview and if successful advised about making a formal application to LSE. Awards will be available for a period of 3 or 4 years depending on experience, but annual renewal will be subject to satisfactory academic performance at the School. There is the following caveat. The fellowship can only be taken up in an ESRC accredited departments. The Department of Government, Geography and Environment, etc. are possibilities, but the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is not.
