Call for Papers "Interconnecting Cultures in a Global Society" Exploring Cultural Perspectives Conference International Cultural Research Network (ICRN) University of Calgary Calgary, AB (Canada) 2-5 July 2009 __________________________________________________ The University of Calgary and the International Cultural Research Network are accepting abstracts for the Exploring Cultural Perspectives Calgary 2009 Conference to be held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from July 2 to 5, 2009. The conference theme is "Interconnecting Cultures in a Global Society" that allows for some unique ways to think about interconnections and cultures not as things but as processes, actions, relationships. ICRN aims to have the conference examine how cultures interconnect by moving beyond the oft repeated theoretical understandings, social and cultural analyses and the sharing of practical experiences of our previous conferences. Cultural relations both define and transcend political, economic, social and religious boundaries. At the conclusion of the conference we intend to define how cultures in the modern era are interdependent and enhanced by interaction both negatively and positively. Research questions for the conference will focus on but are not entirely restricted to reflecting and meta reflecting on the following themes: - Childhood and youth: crime, refugees, health, family, caregiving, politics, technology, employment - Liberty and human trafficking: slavery, genocide, social mpact - Education: policy, history, culture, primary/secondary/tertiary level issues - Multiculturalism, diversity, interculturalism: processes, inter-relationships, immigration, race, legal issues, ethnicity, language/literacy, cultural customs, global interconnections - Anthropology, sociology, economics of culture: funding, policy, legal ramifications, social impact - Aboriginal issues: traditional knowledge, treaty rights, post colonialism, land use framework, health, environmental management, government policies Abstracts should consist of no more than 250-300 words in Times New Roman size 11 font. Abstracts are due March 25, 2009. Notification of acceptance will be sent within a two-week time frame of the abstract receipt by ICRN. You must be an ICRN member to be a delegate at the conference.
