The University of Calgary and the International Cultural
Research Network are accepting abstracts for the Exploring
Cultural Perspectives Calgary 2009 Conference to be held in
Calgary, Alberta, Canada from July 2 to 5, 2009.

The conference theme is "Interconnecting Cultures in a
Global Society" that allows for some unique ways to think
about interconnections and cultures not as things but as
processes, actions, relationships.

ICRN aims to have the conference examine how cultures
interconnect by moving beyond the oft repeated theoretical
understandings, social and cultural analyses and the sharing
of practical experiences of our previous conferences.
Cultural relations both define and transcend political,
economic, social and religious boundaries. At the conclusion
of the conference we intend to define how cultures in the
modern era are interdependent and enhanced by interaction
both negatively and positively.

Research questions for the conference will focus on but are
not entirely restricted to reflecting and meta reflecting on
the following themes:

- Childhood and youth:
crime, refugees, health, family, caregiving, politics,
  technology, employment

- Liberty and human trafficking:
  slavery, genocide, social mpact

- Education:
  policy, history, culture, primary/secondary/tertiary level
  issues

- Multiculturalism, diversity, interculturalism:
  processes, inter-relationships, immigration, race, legal
  issues, ethnicity, language/literacy, cultural customs,
  global interconnections

- Anthropology, sociology, economics of culture:
funding, policy, legal ramifications, social impact

- Aboriginal issues:
traditional knowledge, treaty rights, post colonialism,
land use framework, health, environmental management,

Times New Roman size 11 font.
