"Permanence and Change: The Roles of Culture and Language"
3rd Annual International ACSA Conference

ACSA seeks to provide a forum in which a broad spectrum of
issues in Asian cultures and languages can be researched and
critically discussed. It seeks to offer opportunities for
interdisciplinary studies and an arena for in depth
exchanges of the cultural dynamics of Asia today. The scope
is international and the commitment is to further dynamic
understanding among and about Asia today. ACSA welcomes all
scholars, graduate students and interested persons in Asian
cultures and languages.

Submissions

We invite abstracts of papers and proposals for panel
discussions on the conference theme or on any of the
following suggested topic areas:

Film and Media Studies in Asia, Creative Writing in the
Expression of Asian Values and Identities, New Approaches to
Reading and Teaching Literatures in English, Defining and
Redefining International English, Linguistic and Cultural
Diversities in Asian Societies, The Impact of Religion in
Changing Social Values, New Social and Cultural Discourses
in English Language Education, Translation and
Interpretation Studies in Asian Contexts, Comparative
Cultural Studies, The Impact of New Media Technologies on
Intercultural Communication, Second and Multiple Language
Acquisition in Bilingual and Multi-lingual Societies.

Abstracts of papers 150-300 words and panel sessions 300-500
words in English, accompanied by a brief bio-note in English
of the presenter(s) with contact information for the lead
person should be made to the conference organizer.

The deadline for submission for international presentations
is May 15, 2009.

All submissions will be carefully reviewed and notification
of results will be made within two weeks of receipt.
Domestic proposals will be considered until June 15, 2009.
All proposals should be submitted to the conference

Keynote Speaker

Dr Yasukata YANO, Professor of Waseda University, Tokyo,
Japan and President of the Japan Association for Teaching
Language and Culture.

Conference Venue

The conference will be held on the Hua Mak Campus, Building
A of Assumption University (ABAC), 592 Ram Khamhaeng Road,
Soi 24, Hua Mak, Bangkok, Thailand. Phone contact may be

Accommodation

Assumption University can provide the conference
participants with university accommodation. University hotel
is conveniently located on campus and the room price is
around 800 Baht per night. (Accommodation prices are subject
to change, for details please contact the organisers.) We
can also book you a room at the nearby Bangkok Interplace
Hotel <http://www.bangkokinterplace.com> located within a
walking distance from the campus.

Registration

Overseas participants: 80 USD
Overseas presenters: 40 USD
Local participants (within thailand): 1,000 Baht
Local presenters (within thailand): 600 Baht
Thai university students: 800 Baht

Conference fee is inclusive of the conference registration,
one-year membership of ACSA and the food and beverages
served during the two conference days (2 lunches and 4
coffee breaks). The conference will also include an informal
reception.

While it is possible to register on the day of the
conference, earlier registration is strongly recommended,
especially in the case of the overseas participants, or
those requiring help with accommodation. Late registration
is subject to an additional late registration charge of 200
Baht. Please note that we may not be able to provide
accommodation or conference meals to all of the participants
who register during the conference.
