Call for Papers

"Justice: Foundations and Crisis"
Biannual Brennan Graduate Student Conference
Philosophy Graduate Students, Loyola University
Chicago, IL (USA)
12-14 March 2010

__________________________________________________

Our time is frequently called one of crisis. We live in the midst of
economic, environmental, and political uncertainty. The powers of
capitalism, technology, and dialogue have been called into question.
While the search for a connection between 'is' and 'ought' is
perpetual, we live in a time and an atmosphere in which it is,
perhaps, harder than ever to believe in foundations of justice. In
this conference, we hope to explore contemporary philosophical
attempts to understand justice in a time of crisis. We encourage
papers from a multiplicity of philosophical perspectives including
but not limited to analytic, continental, and historical approaches.

Suggested topics include:
* Foundations of the Political
* Fear, Anxiety, and Political Upheaval
* Narrative, History, and Memory
* Contemporary Marxism
* Crises of Legitimation
* Justice and Gender
* Globalization
* Economic Justice
* Marginalization
* Ecological Justice
* Rights Theory
* Multiculturalism
* Metaethical Foundations of Justice and Normativity
