Call for Papers

"Re-thinking Global Society"

We are delighted to announce that the School of Sociology and Social
Policy at the University of Leeds will formally launch the Bauman
Institute in September 2010, established in honour of Leeds’s
Emeritus Professor of Sociology Zygmunt Bauman.

In recognition of the launch, we are holding an International
Conference here at the University of Leeds on Monday 6th and Tuesday
7th September 2010.

The Conference aims to bring together international expertise amongst
scholars, researchers, practitioners, and postgraduate students,
working in a variety of fields across the arts, humanities and social
sciences. As such, we are delighted to announce amongst our confirmed
plenary speakers:

George Ritzer
Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland,
Washington DC

Daniel Libeskind
Architect

Neal Lawson
Chair of Compass and writer for The Guardian and The New Statesman

Submissions

Our key conference themes are:
- Consumerism and Sustainability
- Globalization, Risk and Uncertainty
- Renewing Politics and Civil Society
- The Social Thought of Zygmunt Bauman

We invite abstracts of not more than 150 words and tied to any of the
above themes to be submitted not later than 31st January 2010 to the
email address below. All abstracts will be subject to peer-review and
should be sent to the Director of the Bauman Institute, Dr Mark
Davis: [email protected]

Conference Fees

Early Registration (before 30 June 2010): £190
Unwaged/Student Rate (Early): £110

Late Registration (from 1 July 2010): £265
Unwaged/Student Rate (Late): £165

All fee options include full conference registration and an
invitation to an Evening Drinks Reception on the Monday, to be held
in the Great Hall at the University of Leeds.
