Call for Papers "Cross Currents" 2011 Uehiro Philosophy Conference Philosophy Department, University of Hawai'i at Manoa Uehiro Foundation Honolulu, HI (USA) 16-18 March 2011 __________________________________________________ The Uehiro CrossCurrents Philosophy Conference is dedicated to showcasing exceptional work by graduate and advanced undergraduate students in comparative philosophy broadly construed (not limited to East-West comparisons). We welcome the submission of papers of high quality in any area of philosophy. Papers of a comparative nature and/ or related to environmental or political philosophy are of particular interest this year, though comparative panels often include papers addressing a common issue from perspectives not strictly considered to be comparative. Email papers to <[email protected]>. Papers should be suitable for a 20- minute presentation. In the body of the email include: 1) Your name, 2) Title of the paper, 3) Institutional Affiliation, 4) Contact information (email, phone number, mailing address), and 5) Whether you would like to be considered for a travel award. Send papers as an attachment in word format with no identifying information for blind review. Paper Submission Deadline: January 1, 2011. Notification of Acceptance: January 20, 2011. The Uehiro Student Essay Award will be presented at the end of the conference to the best student presentation. Competitive travel awards will be available this year for both international and domestic travel. All submissions will be considered for possible publication in the Uehiro Conference Proceedings, published in the past by Cambridge Scholars Press. Keynote Speakers: Dr. Carl Becker Professor of Philosophy at the Kokoro Research Center, with joint appointment as Professor of Human Environmental Studies, both at Kyoto University (Japan). Research interests include implications of cultural values and world-views for medical care and environmental ethics. Dr. Sor-hoon Tan Associate Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Department at the National University of Singapore. Research interests include cross- cultural comparisons of Chinese and Western moral and political philosophy.
