Call for Papers "Neoplatonism in the East - ex oriente lux" International Conference International Society for Neoplatonic Studies (ISNS) University of Haifa Mount Carmel (Israel) 22-24 March 2011 __________________________________________________ The International Society for Neoplatonic Studies is pleased to announce a conference to be held in the University of Haifa on Mount Carmel, Israel on the subject of "Neoplatonism in the East - ex oriente lux". You are cordially invited to submit proposals for delivering a paper on any aspect of Neoplatonism in the eastern Mediterrean, including eastern thought influenced by it. Topics examined at the conference a) The central theme of the conference is devoted to examining the works and philosophy of Neoplatonic thinkers active in the ancient cities and regions of the Eastern Mediterranean (i.e., Greece, Egypt, Anatolia, Provincia Syria etc.). b) equally welcome are papers on eastern philosophies, science and modes of thought influenced by Neoplatonism or in contact with it whether as part of Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions, or connected with Gnostic and Neo-Pythagorean modes of thought and ways of life. c) other proposals will be considered by their relevance to the above discussions. At end of the abstract you should also indicate: - your full name, - academic or professional affiliation, - current email and postal address, - number of accompanying persons, - and whether a university hotel booking would be required. Acceptance of proposals and further instructions will be given by the end of December. At that time we should also be able to confirm the dates for the two tours. We would appreciate notification of any cancellation or change as early as possible.
