Call for Papers Theme: Governance and Responsibility Subtitle: Ideas for a Human, Solidarity-based Development Type: International Symposium Institution: Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement – Terre Solidaire Location: Paris (France) Date: 8.–9.12.2011 Deadline: 31.5.2011 __________________________________________________ The French Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (Comité Catholique contre la Faim et pour le Développement – Terre Solidaire), commonly known as CCFD-Terre Solidaire, is France's largest international solidarity organization. As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations this year, it is organizing a symposium of reflection and discussion on development, entitled "Governance and Responsibility: ideas for a human, solidarity-based development." An international symposium will be held in Paris, at the Musée du Quai Branly, on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th December 2011. This gathering among French, European, and international institutions; economic and social development organizations; and researchers from the North as well as the South, is intended to be a forum where an idea for human and solidarity-based development can be worked out. We hope that not only concrete proposals for alternative economic models, for an accepted world governance, and for a renewal of humanism, but also a strong political realization of the need to set up tools for fairer development will emerge from this symposium. CCFD-Terre Solidaire will organize reflection around three main themes, defined below in question form. - Towards an economy that benefits humankind: In a world with limited resources, how can the economy be reset into society, taking into account the constraints imposed by the required reproduction of natural eco-systems? Under what conditions is a fairer and more solidarity-based economy also more "viable"? How can we imagine economic transition towards "another" economy? - World governance, local governance: towards a new role by actors, territories, and nation-states: Faced with globalization that has sometimes catastrophic undertones, how can we improve the status of the often marginalized local level? What model of governance can be enabled by applying the principle of subsidiarity? How can we develop local partnerships and reinterpret the connections between territory, nation-state, major region, and world level, by associating all the actors in this renewed governance? How can the concept of solidarity become a political concept? - Contributing to the fulfillment of Humanity and the individual: What can we say of contemporary Man, of his desires, his strengths, his weaknesses, and his universality? Of the humanity of the individual, balance or tension with nature, power, finiteness, and responsibility? Of the usefulness of beliefs and putting them into discussion in the process of the fulfillment of Humanity? PRACTICAL INFORMATION Proposals for papers (abstract of 4000 characters, not including spaces, outline and bibliography not included + name and e-mail and postal addresses) must be sent by 31 May 2011 to the following address: [email protected] Languages of the papers: French or English Instructions for the papers - Specify references to theories, the corpus, the methodology, etc. - The texts must respect the following typographical characteristics: size 12 fonts, Times New Roman type, single spacing. - Notification of acceptance: 10 July 2011. - Submittal of papers (40,000 characters including spaces): 15 October 2011. - The papers will be selected by a review committee. All the papers selected will be published in the symposium's proceedings. Further, at least three papers will be presented during the symposium.
