The Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion at Lancaster
University invites you to a three day conference in late September to
explore Asian religious and moral values in the context of
contemporary debates regarding human rights, social justice, the
environment, gender, and other issues.

Description of Conference

We invite papers that address values and social justice within the
context of Asian religious, philosophical, cultural, and political
traditions. In addition to offering Asian ideas of justice and
religious values as important additions or alternatives to Western
perspectives, this conference will put different Asian perspectives
in dialogue with each other. We encourage paper and panel proposals
from interested researchers at any stage of their careers. A
selection of revised papers from the conference will be published in
an edited book.

Speakers include:
  *  Rajeev Bhargava (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies,
     New Delhi)
  *  Morny Joy (University of Calgary)
  *  Sashi Motilal (University of Delhi)
  *  Xinzhong Yao (University of Lampeter and University of Oxford)
  *  Chakravarthi Ram-Prasad (Lancaster University)
  *  Amalendu Misra (Lancaster University)
  *  and speakers from many other countries, including: Japan, China,
     Taiwan, Pakistan, Thailand, Burma, Korea, and the Philippines

Themes to be addressed:
  *  Social justice
  *  Human rights
  *  The environment
  *  Secularism
  *  Democracy
  *  Gender
  *  New religious movements
  *  Multiculturalism
