Call for Papers Theme: Humanity and Humanitarianism in Crisis Type: AAGS 2012 Conference Institution: Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS) International Christian University Location: Tokyo (Japan) Date: 17.–18.3.2012 Deadline: 30.11.2011 __________________________________________________ The Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS), a Japan-based professional organization for international scholars and educators interested in interdiscipinary perspectives on issues of global significance, is pleased to announce the theme, date and place of its 2012 international conference. Given the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear related disasters affecting Japan since March of 2011, the continued global economic crisis, and ongoing political conflicts in the Middle East, it was decided that this year's theme would be Humanity and Humanitarianism in Crisis. At this conference of international scholars, activists, policymakers, and humanitarian workers, the focus will be on how human beings are affected by and respond to cataclysmic events and the implications of major crises for humanity. Papers that address whether governmental and non-governmental responses have been sufficient for the challenges presented thus far to specific populations and humanity, those that examine how well societies are prepared for future threats, and those that look at what has been learned from past crises and disasters will be most welcome. The conference on this occasion will be hosted by International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. The organizing committee invites paper proposals within the following streams, though others will be considered: Ecological Crises and Disasters, NGOs and Humanitarian Assistance, State Policies and Responses, Nuclear Issues, Public Health, Conflict Resolution, Human Rights, Capitalism in Crisis, Social Movements, Historical Perspectives, and Philosophical Issues. Proposals (an abstract of the paper) should be between 150 to 200 words and include the paper's title and the author's name, affiliation, and contact information. A bio of 100 to 125 words describing the author's background, accomplishments and research interests should also accompany the proposal. Both proposals and bios should be written using the templates provided at: http://asia-globalstudies.org/templates Applications should then be submitted as email attachments to: [email protected] Documents not using the templates or following the specified format will not be accepted.
