Call for Papers Theme: Religion and Ethics in Pluralistic Healthcare Contexts Type: 3rd Faith and Nursing Symposium Institution: School of Nursing, Trinity Western University Location: Langley, BC (Canada) Date: 10.–12.5.2012 Deadline: 10.12.2011 __________________________________________________ Several recent social trends have rekindled the recognition of the relevance of religion to ethics and nursing. Global migration has resulted in unprecedented religious diversity. At the same time, alternative spiritualities that emphasize personal quests for meaning are increasingly stressed. These social trends have resulted in what are referred to as a post-secular societies, and present an urgent need to acknowledge and draw upon religion and theology from multiple faith traditions in nursing and healthcare ethics. The inclusion of religious perspectives into ethics is needed “at the bedside”, as well as in health ethics and policy in relation to regional, national and global health, with particular emphasis placed on disadvantaged, disvalued and marginalized populations. Trinity Western University School of Nursing in Canada is inviting submissions for its 3rd Faith and Nursing Symposium to be held on May 10 - 12th, 2012 at Trinity Western University, Langley, B.C. This international conference will provide a forum to examine the intersections of religion and nursing ethics in pluralistic health care contexts, with keynote speakers, concurrent sessions, and poster presentations. Abstracts are invited that feature empirical, theoretical, historical, educational or practice-oriented discussion on the intersections of religion, spirituality, ethics, plurality, and nursing.
