Call for Applications Type: Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Pre-Modern Islamic Philosophy Institution: Institut supérieur de Philosophie, Université catholique de Louvain Location: Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) Deadline: 15.12.2011 __________________________________________________ Post-doctoral Fellowship in pre-Modern Islamic philosophy 2012-2013 (UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) The Institut supérieur de Philosophie (UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve) is pleased to announce a full-time FRS-FNRS post-doctoral Fellowship, beginning Jan. 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of two years. The fellow will be integrated in the project "Commentaries on Avicenna's Qasidat al-nafs", under the direction of Prof. Cécile Bonmariage. This project is part of the broader project "Avicenna East and West", and aims at studying the commentaries on the Poem of the soul by Avicenna, both individually and in a diachronic approach. The fellow is expected to contribute to the project and conduct independent research. No teaching duty is attached to this Fellowship. The Fellowship offers a stipend of approximately €2100 a month, plus benefits and some support for research. Applications from candidates who wish to defer the start of their fellowship until next Academic year or to join the project for less than two years will also be considered. Requirements: Applicants should hold a doctorate in Islamic Studies, Near Eastern Studies or another relevant field of study (obtained no more than six years before the beginning of the fellowship); have a high command of Arabic (knowledge of Persian and/or Ottoman Turkish or of Latin is a plus); be able to work with manuscripts; be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in pre-Modern Islamic intellectual history and/or edition of texts.
