Call for Applications Type: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Political Theory/Political Philosophy Institution: Department of Social Sciences and History, Technical University of Darmstadt Location: Darmstadt (Germany) Date: 2012–2017 Deadline: 30.9.2012 __________________________________________________ The Department of Social Sciences and History at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Political Theory/Political Philosophy (5 years) to start on November 1st 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. A new Sofja Kovalevskaja Research Group, directed by Dr Miriam Ronzoni, will settle at the Institute of Political Science of the TU Darmstadt in October 2012. The group will investigate which challenges the current global order poses to the problem-solving capacities of states, and which normative problems this raises, with special emphasis on cases of global background injustice. The group is currently seeking to appoint a postdoctoral fellow, ideally as a member of the group for its entire duration (2012-2017). Suitable candidates will have completed, or be close to completing, a doctorate in political theory or political philosophy, with a clear focus on international normative theory and a proven potential to conduct and publish research at an international level. They will have an interest in applied political theory and in the combination of theoretical and empirical concerns, and will pursue research on a topic of direct relevance to the research focus of the centre. The group has particular interests for projects investigating one of the following issues: the morality of failed states, the rationale for international development, international tax and labour standards competition, the regulation of financial markets, the threats to democracies in a global era, brain drain, and/or the governance of climate change. This is not, however, a binding requirement. Experience in the organization of academic events will be an asset. The research fellow should have, or be willing to gain, a working knowledge of German by the end of the second year of the appointment. Most of the academic activities of the group will be conducted in English, but a working knowledge of German will be necessary for administrative purposes. The research fellow will be expected to collaborate in all the activities of the group (including the organization of academic conferences, research seminars, and visiting fellowships). The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications, applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equivalent will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). The package includes a yearly travel allowance and a small yearly research allowance. Part-time employment is generally possible. Please send your application (in English or German, including a 2-3 page research project, a CV, and two letters of reference - short listed candidates will be asked to send a writing sample), quoting the code number of the vacancy, to: TU Darmstadt Dean of the Department of Social Sciences and History Residenzschloss D-64283 Darmstadt Germany Informal enquiries can be sent to: [email protected] Code.
