As in previous Conferences we will focus on the motives underlying individual and collective action in an enlightened society. The Conference will take place in Berlin-Wannsee from 26 July to 2 August, 2013 - immediately before the World Congress of Philosophy in Athens. It is organized by the Philosophical-Political Academy (PPA), the Society of Socratic Facilitators (GSP), the Society for the Furtherance of Critical Philosophy (SFCP) and the Institute of Comparative Ethics (FU Berlin). Main objectives of the Conference are: - to intensify discussions on controversial issues of dialogical philosophizing - to enhance relations among the international community of practitioners of dialogical philosophizing - to deepen understanding of the philosophical background of different forms of dialogical philosophizing - to offer participation in Socratic Dialogues and reflection on methodological aspects of Socratic Dialogue, e.g. cooperative forms of facilitation - to emphasize the socio-political importance of dialogue in general and of philosophical dialogue in particular. The Conference consists of three parts (A, B, C). The first two parts (A, B) are open to everybody. They can also be booked separately. We would, nevertheless, be pleased to welcome as many participants as possible to both parts of the Conference. On behalf of our four organizations we warmly invite you to participate in our Conference and to engage in shaping and arranging the Conference Programme through your suggestions and comments. During the first part of the Conference (26 to 28 July) you will have the chance to take part in a Socratic Dialogue. During the second part of the Conference (28 to 31 July) you will be able to attend presentations and workshops on different forms of dialogical philosophizing. We would also welcome offers from participants who wish to contribute. The third part of the Conference (1 and 2 August) is restricted to about 20 invited participants. It will provide a forum for experts in dialogical practice and dialogical philosophizing who want to work more intensively on clarifying similarities and differences among their respective approaches. If you feel you could make a contribution based on substantive experience of philosophical dialogue, please do not hesitate to apply to take part in this final section of the conference. We will be glad to provide you with necessary further details. Each of the three parts of the Conference can be booked separately. Conference languages will be English and German. Part A (26 to 28 July, 2013): SOCRATIC DIALOGUES You can choose from four or five Socratic Dialogues, which will be offered for about ten participants each. Three of those Dialogues will be in English, one or two in German. Each of the Dialogues will be facilitated by a team of two facilitators, who will be from different countries. If you are interested in joining one of the Dialogues, please make use of the Form: http://philosophisch-politische-akademie.de/download/2013/Enrolment-IC-2013-Parts-A-B.doc If you want to facilitate one of the Socratic Dialogues, please let us know stating who your co-facilitator is (a person whose mother tongue is different from yours) and suggesting two different topics for your Socratic Dialogue. Workshops and presentations will primarily be on the following subject areas: - Theory and practice of different forms of dialogical philosophizing (Socratic Dialogue, Dilemma Discussion, Bohm Dialogue, Community of Inquiry, etc.) - Methods, techniques and tools of dialogical philosophizing - Relation between philosophical, psychological and theological dialogues - Role of reason, emotion and body in dialogical philosophizing - Dialogue as a tool of political participation - Dialogical Philosophizing in schools and other educational contexts - Training facilitators for philosophical dialogues. The Conference will also provide the opportunity to briefly comment on controversial issues of dialogical philosophizing in provocative statements. You are cordially invited to offer a workshop, a presentation or a statement. Workshops should be organized interactively. By this we want to raise the understanding of similarities and differences. The colloquium will have a particularly dialogical structure. In five units of about 90 minutes one essential issue at a time will be discussed. For each of the issues the participants will have written statements in advance, which will form the basis of the discussion chaired by a facilitator. The five issues will be selected from suggestions submitted by the experts of dialogical philosophizing. Everybody who is interested in contributing suitable issues or in discussing the suitability of the suggestions is invited to do so on our website "http://dialogue-conf-2013.forumprofi.de" (in preparation). Experts on dialogical philosophizing can apply for the Colloquium on dialogical practice and dialogical philosophizing: http://philosophisch-politische-akademie.de/download/2013/Application-Colloquium-IC-2013-Part-C.doc This application form also informs you about the necessary further details.
