Call for Papers Theme: World Philosophies Type: 2nd Annual Philosophy Graduate Conference Institution: University of Hull Location: Kingston upon Hull (United Kingdom) Date: 20.–21.6.2013 Deadline: 31.3.2013 __________________________________________________ We would like to welcome submissions for World Philosophies, the 2nd Annual Philosophy Graduate Conference, at the University of Hull, to be held 20th and 21st of June, 2013 Topic: Throughout the Twentieth Century, Western Philosophy has been divided into two factions: Anglo-American analytic philosophy and Continental philosophy dominated by phenomenology and post-phenomenological philosophies. Anglo- American philosophy seems thus to have been cut off from the rest of the world, and seems to have evolved in relative isolation. The aim of this conference is to allow analytic philosophy to engage with other philosophies from around the world. - In recent years, there has been a growing interest in phenomenology and what it can contribute to modern philosophy of mind. - An interest in Asian philosophy is beginning to appear, particularly in ethics and moral philosophy. - Islamic philosophy, African philosophy and pre-Columbian American philosophies may also have much to contribute to many modern debates. - Any other philosophical traditions which can have an input into analytic debates or any of the above traditions are also welcome. In this conference we would like to encourage submissions from graduates and early career researchers dealing with non-analytic philosophies and what they can contribute, either to modern analytic debates, or to each other. There is no particular area of philosophy which particularly encourages this debate. The area of philosophy is therefore open, so long as submissions reflect on the relation between different philosophical traditions. Keynote speaker: Dr. Katherine Morris, Oxford Submissions should be approximately 3,000 words in length, suitable for presentation in 30 minutes, and emailed in word document or pdf to [email protected], by the 31st March 2013. Notification of acceptance by 3rd May 2013 For further information, please contact Josh Gray at: [email protected] __________________________________________________ InterPhil List Administration: http://interphil.polylog.org Intercultural Philosophy Calendar: http://cal.polylog.org __________________________________________________
