The Ghent Centre for Buddhist Studies Studies (Ghent University,
Belgium) and the Buddhism in Motion Group of the KHK Dynamics in the
History of Religions between Asia and Europe (Ruhr University Bochum,
Germany) are pleased to announce the International Conference
'Network and Identity: Exchange Relations between China and the
World'.

At this stage, we invite proposals of papers for this conference to
be held in Ghent, Belgium on 18, 19 and 20 December 2013.

The aim of the conference is to examine the spread of ideas and
practices along the major trade roads between India and Japan, with
China in a pivotal position. This journey is conditioned by many
factors: geographical, social, political, philosophical, artistic,
religious and even linguistic environments all played their role. In
each region, ideas and practices intermingle, giving rise to new
identities. Roads also naturally rely on networks, economical as well
as cultural. This conference aims to focus on these two concepts,
'networks' and 'identity': while people need each other to travel
along the long routes of Asia, meeting each other also enhances ideas
or questions about one's own position and cultural framework.

We welcome any papers on the concepts 'identity' and 'network' or
related to various forms of interaction and exchange in the Asian
World.

Interested scholars are invited to submit paper proposals and a short
résumé by May 15th at <[email protected]>. Presentations should be
approximately 15 to 20 minutes in length. The abstracts will be
evaluated by a scientific committee (anonymous peer review).
Notification of acceptance of your paper for presentation at the
conference will be done by June 15th 2013. Attendance at the
conference is free of conference fees for paper presenters.
