Call for Publications Theme: Childhood Publication: Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture Date: Special Issue Deadline: 1.8.2013 __________________________________________________ From Jean Tan <[email protected]> Budhi: A Journal of Ideas and Culture invites you to submit previously unpublished papers on the topic of childhood. While philosophy has much to say about the autonomous – that is to say, adult – subject and has assumed much about the childhood from which this subjectivity emerges, relatively little has been done in thinking about childhood and children, in elucidating unexamined presuppositions about childhood, and in undertaking a critique of ideological purposes to which the trope of childhood has been put to use. Budhi will consider articles on topics such as – though not limited to – the following: * philosophy/philosophies of childhood * philosophical significance of childhood * philosophical appropriations of the trope of childhood * “women and children first” * childhood as a paradigm for spirituality, or ethics, or politics * economic theories on children * childhood and economics * childhood and poverty * children and globalization * ethical and legal discourses on children * rights of children * pedagogical approaches and theories of childhood * children in media * cross-cultural perspectives on children * children and the politics and ethics of reproduction * childhood trauma * childhood and memory * children and war * violence on children * crime by children, children and crime About Budhi Budhi is an interdisciplinary journal of philosophy that seeks to encourage creative and critical contemporary interpretations and appropriations of the history of ideas as well as theoretical constructions addressing contemporary culture and society. The journal is devoted to the practice of philosophy in its interdisciplinary engagements with art, culture, history, religion, technology, and the social sciences. It seeks to provide an arena for exchanges between mainstream traditions and work from the geopolitical margins, particularly from the local history and culture of the Philippines. Budhi therefore crosses geographical borders as well as intellectual boundaries within philosophy and within the humanities and the social sciences. Budhiis published by the Ateneo de Manila University. Manuscript Preparation Articles should be about 6,000 to 10,000 words long, including notes and references. The manuscript should include an abstract of no more than 200 words. Manuscripts should be submitted as MS Word files in .doc format, double-spaced. Citations should follow the notes and bibliography system (not the author-date system) of The Chicago Manual of Style. Manuscripts should be prepared for blind review. The article itself should contain no reference to the author’s identity. In a separate file, please submit an author sheet with the following information: title of submission, name of author, affiliation, contact information, e-mail address, abstract (no longer than 200 words), and five key words.
