Call for Papers Theme: Migration Without Boundaries Type: 2nd Annual Graduate Student Research Conference on Migration Institution: Michigan State University Location: East Lansing, MI (USA) Date: 4.–5.10.2013 Deadline: 1.8.2013 __________________________________________________ Michigan State University will host the second annual graduate student research conference on migration, welcoming papers on the theme, “Migration Without Boundaries.” This conference aims to facilitate and foster an interdisciplinary, trans-institutional cohort of scholars at any stage of their graduate career, working on any thematic, conceptual, spatial, or temporal aspect of migration, from any disciplinary perspective. Submissions may include research proposals, research designs, dissertation or thesis chapters, methodological models, works in progress, outlines of dissertations, and preliminary research findings. Michigan State University has over 30 renowned faculty members who work on migration, many of whom will serve as discussants. The conference will feature keynote speaker Dr. Donna Gabaccia of the Department of History at the University of Minnesota on the evening of Friday, October 4th. Paper sessions, and a plenary session featuring a panel of Michigan State migration scholars, will take place on Saturday, October 5th. Individual Papers - Your submission must include the presentation title, abstract (of no more than 250 words), 3-4 keywords, home institution and affiliated department(s), and co-authors (if applicable). - There is a $20 conference fee that can be paid online through the conference website upon acceptance. The following is a list of suggested keywords; while this list is not exhaustive, it can assist you during the development of your abstract. If there are any keywords that are a more appropriate match for your topic not listed here, please include them with your abstract. Suggested Keywords: Religion; transnationalism; health; science; class; race/ethnicity; forced migration; organizations; internal migration; post-colonialism; family; youth; South-South migration; gender; technologies of mobility; immigrant entrepreneurship; imperial migrations/colonization; elite migration; language/literature; linguistics; citizenship; refugees; policy; development; immigration. Panel Submissions - Applicants may also consider submitting a panel proposal (include an abstract for the panel and an abstract for each presenter). - The panel abstract should include a statement about the panel topic and a brief summary of the arguments to be explored by contributing papers.
