The Institute of Philosophy of the University of Zurich is organizing
a Conference and a Graduate Workshop on

"The Philosophy of Translation and the Translation of Philosophy"

Dates
Conference: Monday, 17th February - Wednesday, 19th February 2014
Workshop: Thursday, 20th February

Place
University of Zurich, Zurich

The conference aims to examine the concept of translation and its
place in contemporary analytic philosophy. Although the notion of
translation has played an important role throughout the history of
analytic philosophy, the notion itself has not been explored
sufficiently. The conference intends to address the following
questions: What does it mean to translate something, in particular
regarding different theories of meaning? What are the criteria for
the correctness of a translation? Are conceptual clarifications
translatable or are they confined to a language? What is the role of
linguistic kinship? Is the translation of philosophical works special?

Speakers:

Georg Bossong (University of Zurich)
Simon Evnine (University of Miami)
Susanne Huber (University of Zurich)
Hans-Johann Glock (University of Zurich)
Vasso Kindi (University of Athens)
Gabriele M. Mras (University of Vienna, WU Vienna)
Nenad Miscevic (CEU, University of Maribor)
Mélika Ouelbani (University of Paris)
Piers Rawling (Florida State University)
Piotr Stalmaszczyk (University of Lodz)
Joachim Schulte (University of Zurich)
Philip Wilson (University of East Anglia/Inönü University)
