The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and the
Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics invite applications for
the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship in Ethics and Global Food
and Agricultural Policy. This position is one of 50 new Bloomberg
Distinguished Professorships designated for outstanding scholars who
carry out interdisciplinary research and teaching in areas identified
for significant growth at the University. This tenured faculty member
will have dual academic appointments in the Johns Hopkins Berman
Institute of Bioethics and the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced
International Studies, where tenure will reside.  

The Bloomberg Distinguished Professor will conduct original,
policy-oriented scholarship and be a leader of SAIS’s and the Berman
Institute’s collaborative efforts to advance research and scholarship
in the areas of ethics, global food and agricultural policy.  The
Bloomberg Distinguished Professor will have unprecedented
opportunities for interdisciplinary, innovative scholarship and
teaching.

Applicants must hold a PhD, JD, MD, or equivalent and: (1) have
strong commitments to global food policy/agricultural health policy;
(2) background or demonstrated scholarly commitment to addressing
ethical issues in their area of expertise; (3) exhibit evidence or
potential for a distinguished record of scholarship in ethics and
global food policy; (4) record of excellence in teaching; and (5)
demonstrated record of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.
Scholars from a variety of disciplines, including the social
sciences, philosophy, public policy, international affairs, public
health, law, and economics are encouraged to apply. Applicants with
strong training in empirical (quantitative and/or qualitative) social
science research as well as in moral and political theory are
welcomed. The Bloomberg Distinguished Professor is open to those at
the associate or full professor rank, with tenure.
