Call for Papers Theme: Religion, Values, Identity and the ASEAN Integration Type: 6th Southeast Asian Biannual Conference Institution: Council for Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) De La Salle University University of Santo Tomas San Beda College Location: Manila (Philippines) Date: 8.–9.5.2014 Deadline: 15.2.2014 __________________________________________________ The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), was established in 1967, and ten member states, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. In 2000, the Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan was formulated for 2002-2008, and a second Work Plan was formulated for 2009-2015, all with the intention of achieving an ASEAN Community. The second Work Plan embodies three blueprints in the areas of economic integration, political security integration, and socio-cultural integration. With 2015 just in the horizon, the 6th Southeast Asian Biannual Conference problematizes the impact of the ASEAN Integration on religions, values and identities of the people in the ten member states, hence the theme "Religion, Values, Identity and the ASEAN Integration." This theme is intended to encompass such topics as: local philosophies, systems of values and the ASEAN integration; impact of the ASEAN integration on religion, values and identity; bridging diversities in the region; new possibilities in education and human capital; integration and the question on language; and other similar issues. Application Applications for this conference should be sent by email by February 15, 2014 to [email protected] and [email protected]. This gathering will not charge any conference fees but the participants will cover their own travel and hotel costs. The Philippine organizers will arrange the reservation of suitable rooms at about 25 to 30 USD per night. Food and local transportation during the conference days will be provided by the said organizers. The conference will be held at the De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas and San Beda College, all in the City of Manila. The application should include: 1) an updated curriculum vitae that specifies the applicants educational background, professional positions and affiliations, and publications; 2) a letter of intent that relates the conference theme to the applicant?s past, present and future intellectual endeavors; and 3) the abstract of the paper that the applicant wishes to present during the conference.
