Call for Papers Theme: Advancing UNiversal Human Rights Culture Type: 5th International Conference on Human Rights Education (IHREC) Institution: Washington College of Law, American University Location: Washington, DC (USA) Date: 4.–6.12.2014 Deadline: 1.8.2014 __________________________________________________ The Organizing Committee of the Fifth International Conference on Human Rights Education (IHREC) "Advancing UNiversal Human Rights Culture" warmly invites submissions for paper proposals for presentation at the conference. The 2014 conference will focus on the UN and the UN World Programme for Human Rights Education, and address a broad range of legal, social, and educational issues. The 5th IHREC is an annual event bringing together experts and scholars from around the world interested in the human rights education. Past conference speakers include Nobel Peace Prize winners, government ministers and ombudsmen from various countries, members of international and regional organizations, senior government officials, scholars from leading universities and research centres, and members of civil society. How to Nourish Human Rights Culture? - What could/should government do to advance a Human Rights Culture? - Can the Media Shift Public Opinion on Human Rights Issues? - Human Rights in Professional Training - The Role of Law in Human Rights Education - Contribution of National Bills of Rights to HRE - International Experience - Role of Civil Society in Educating about Human Rights, including HR Education by the Trade Unions and NGOs (e.g., Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, Red Cross, and others) - HRE of duty-bearers incl. professional groups such as law enforcement officials, health workers, social workers, and others - Implementing the HR Based Approach in Community Organisations 4. HR Education and Conflict - Human Rights Training for Military and Police - The Application of Human Rights in a Disaster Context Instructions for Submission of Papers - Abstracts of a maximum 250 words are invited by 1 August 2014. - Abstracts will be reviewed for their relevance, academic merit and timeliness by a panel, and authors will be notified of decisions via email by 1 September 2014. - The complete manuscript should be submitted to the conference organizing committee by 1 November 2014. - Please send your submission via email to: [email protected] - You will receive an email confirming receipt of your submission.
