The University Research Priority Program (URPP) Asia and Europe of
the University of Zurich explores exchanges and encounters between
Asia and Europe that have taken and continue to take place in the
areas of culture, law, religion and society. It promotes research by
junior graduate scholars at both doctoral and post-doctoral levels
within a structured and interdisciplinary research environment. The
URPP consists of three research fields, i.e. “Concepts and
Taxonomies”, “Entangled Histories”, and “Norms and Social Order(s)”.

We invite applications for 1 research position at the doctoral level
involving a social-scientific orientation and focusing on
contemporary themes and issues

Starting date: 1 January 2015

The position is assigned to one of the following URPP Asia and Europe
research fields: “Concepts and Taxonomies”, “Entangled Histories”,
“Norms and Social Order(s)”. The applications should submit an
original research project relating to the research questions of one
of the research fields.

Requirements: M.A. or equivalent academic degree, qualifying the
candidate to submit a PhD thesis in one of the relevant disciplines
of the URPP.

Employment conditions: 60% PhD-position at the University of Zurich.
The salary is according to the University’s regulations for
PhD-students. Candidates are expected to enroll in the URPP’s
graduate program (Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program Asia and
Europe). Employment is initially for one year with the possibility of
an extension up to two years and eight months. Such extensions are
contingent upon a positive evaluation and the fulfillment of
employment conditions.

interdisciplinary research environment (4 faculties, 14 disciplines).
The activities of the URPP are conducted in German and/or English.
