Call for Papers Theme: Yogacara Buddhism in Context Subtitle: Approaches to Yogacara Philosophy throughout Ages and Cultures Type: International Workshop Institution: Doctoral Program in Buddhist Studies, University of Munich Location: Munich (Germany) Date: 19.–20.6.2015 Deadline: 31.12.2014 __________________________________________________ The Doctoral Program in Buddhist Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München is pleased to announce a call for papers for “Yogācāra Buddhism in Context: Approaches to Yogācāra Philosophy throughout Ages and Cultures,” to be held on June 19-20, 2015 in Munich, Germany, with keynote addresses by Prof. em. Lambert Schmithausen (Hamburg) and Prof. Nobuyoshi Yamabe (Tokyo). Since its growth out of Indian Buddhist thought and practice in the first centuries of the Common Era, the philosophy of the school of Yogācāra Buddhism has undergone numerous developments and transformations. These include formations in India as well as later interpretations, e.g. in China, Tibet or Japan, that reflect distinctive characteristics of the specific cultural context. This workshop is designed to be a platform to give scholars working in the field of Yogācāra studies the opportunity to present their academic research and to facilitate fruitful exchanges among them. Eight selected PhD students and postdocs will be invited to present their current projects and to put them up for discussion within this special focus. Abstract submission deadline: 31 December 2014 1–2 pages (in English) and a curriculum vitae via e-mail (PDF format) Notification of acceptance: 31 January 2015 Final paper submission deadline: 30 April 2015 The workshop language is English. While it is of course preferred that expenses for attendees are funded by their home institutions, travel funding is available for some attendees and will be awarded based on need and merit.
