Call for Applications Type: PhD Studentship in Toleration in Law and Politics Institution: Morrell Centre for Toleration, University of York Location: York (United Kingdom) Date: from September 2015 Deadline: 23.1.2015 __________________________________________________ Applications are invited to carry out doctoral research on Toleration, jointly supervised in York Law School and in the Department of Politics, within the Morrell Centre for Toleration at the University of York. The PhD will be jointly supervised by the Centre’s Director, Professor Matt Matravers in York Law School, and by a suitable member of the political theory group within the Department of Politics. To be eligible for the award, the proposal must be appropriate for joint supervision and in particular include a legal element. Beyond that, there is no restriction on scope and we welcome substantive proposals on toleration broadly conceived. The award is of the ‘Goodman Studentship’ in memory of Ted Goodman who was for many years a Trustee of the C & JB Morrell Trust. The studentship holder is expected to engage in independent research for his/her PhD. The studentship holder will have opportunities to gain teaching experience during the course of the PhD. However, both would be by agreement and would be paid at standard University of York rates. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarship will be awarded for three years. The start date is September 2015. Eligibility Applicants should have an outstanding academic record with, ideally, a First Class Honour’s degree or equivalent – or at least an Upper Second (or equivalent) – and an M level qualification (completed or pending) ideally with Distinction (predicted in the case of pending awards). In addition to applying for the studentship, candidates must also formally apply and be accepted to the PhD programme at the University of York.
