Call for Papers Theme: Building Sovereignty, Preventing Hegemony Subtitle: The Challenges for Emerging Forces in the Globalised World Type: International and Multidisciplinary Conference Institution: Bandung Spirit Location: Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta (Indonesia) Date: 26.–31.10.2015 Deadline: 31.5.2015 __________________________________________________ The 1955 Bandung Asian-African Conference gave birth to an idiom : ‘Bandung Spirit’, which can be summarised as a call 1) for a peaceful coexistence between nations, 2) for the liberation of the world from the hegemony of any superpower, from colonialism, from imperialism, from any kind of domination of one country by another, and 3) for building solidarity towards the poor, the colonised, the exploited, the weak and those being weakened by the world order of the day, and 4) for their emancipation. Now, almost 60 years after the Bandung Conference, colonisation has officially disappeared, the Cold War has ended, and the Non-Aligned Movement has almost lost its raison d’être. Yet, similar systems of domination by the powerful in the world order persist, wars continue to threaten humanity, mass hunger, diseases and poverty still characterise many parts of the world, and injustice has appeared in more sophisticated forms and larger dimensions. Is a better world still possible ? Is there any alternative to the present course of globalisation ? Those are among the questions to be discussed in the commemorative conference of the 60th anniversary of the 1955 Bandung Asian-African Conference that will take place in Indonesia on October 26-31, 2015, under the theme of "Building Sovereignty, Preventing Hegemony: The Challenges for Emerging Forces in the Globalised World". The concept, planning and programme of the conference are prepared by a Scientific Board consisting of well-known academics from Africa, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world. The conference will be organised in plenary sessions and 5 seminars following the 5 pillars of sustainable development. The seminars and their coordinators are: - Culture: Adams Bodomo, Ghana/Austria (Linguistics/African Studies, University of Vienna) - Ecology: Yukio Kamino, Japan (African Studies/Ecology, OISCA, Tokyo) - Economy: Rimawan Pradiptyo, Indonesia (Economics, Gadjah Mada University) - Politics: Lin Chun, China/UK (Political Sciences, London School of Economics) - Spirituality & Religion: Jean-Jacques Ngor Sène, Senegal/USA (History, Chatham University) In addition to the 5 five seminars, a collective work will be dedicated to Final Declaration/Charter/Manifesto under the coordination of Lazare Ki-Zerbo, Burkina Faso/France (Philosophy, International Committee Joseph Ki-Zerbo for Africa and Diaspora). Call for Papers The conference is open to individual paper presentation. Participant candidates willing to present a paper are invited to submit their proposal following the instructions described in the Participant Guidelines: http://www.bandungspirit.org/spip.php?article84 Call for Roundtables The conference also provides space and time for roundtables. In a roundtable, a group of minimum 5 persons conducts a discussion on a topic approved by the organising committee of the conference. The requirements for roundtable proposal are similar to those of individual paper. The difference is in the number of participant candidates: one person for an individual paper, 5 persons minimum for a roundtable. Call for Participation in Working Groups The conference invites those willing to be involved in the conference to participate in one of the 6 Working Groups of the conference : Culture, Ecology, Economy, Politics, Spirituality & Religion, and Final Declaration/Charter/Manifesto. Their role is to participate in the seminars and in the elaboration of the Final Declaration/Charter/Manifesto. They just need to send their basic personal data described in the Participant Guidelines. The updated list of working group members can be checked at Bandung+60 Working Groups.
