Call for Papers Theme: Emmanuel Levinas Subtitle: A Radical Thinker in the Time of Crisis Type: Interdisciplinary Conference Institution: Centre for Religious Studies and Research (CRSR), Vilnius University Location: Vilnius (Lithuania) Date: 27.–29.10.2015 Deadline: 15.9.2015 __________________________________________________ The conference “Emmanuel Levinas: a Radical Thinker in the Time of Crisis” (Vilnius, October 27-29) commemorates one of the most famous thinkers of the 20th century Emmanuel Levinas on 110th anniversary of his birth and 20th anniversary of his passing. Levinas deeply experienced the cataclysms of the past century, becoming one of the brightest intellectual figures of his time. The conference aims to bring together scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds involving philosophers, historians and specialists of cultural and religious studies to rediscover Levinas as a radical thinker in the time of crisis. The conference addresses a wide range of Levinas’s philosophy topics, with particular focus on their link to the challenges of contemporary world. Possible approaches may include, among others: - Dialogue and difference - New identities and ethics - Ethics as critical experience - Contemporary ontology and ethics - Singularity without identity - Religion with/out religion - Levinas and interreligious dialogue - Nihilism in contemporary thinking - Levinas, justice and borders - From identity to alterity politics - Levinas and the media The language of the conference is English. The abstracts up to 300 words and a brief biographical note should be sent by 15th September 2015 to: [email protected] The selected conference papers will be published in a separate monograph. All submissions must be submitted electronically. Paper Abstracts must include: title, author's name, institution, contact information. An acknowledgement of receipt of your abstract will be sent to you within one week from the date of receipt.
