From Stefano Bigliardi <[email protected]>

Today, like in the past, the religions are often the pretext and the
justification for wars and brutality, in order to demonstrate the
tragic weakness of all the efforts made during the human path towards
the respect of the Other. But, as we are totally convinced that, like
Primo Levi stated, «everyone who forgets his past is condemned to
live it again», the Sangalli Institute for the religious history and
cultures in Florence believes that it is essential to support the
research and the reflection in order to build a real and mutual
respect among the different religious confessions, which are more and
more obliged to live side by side in our cities and our communities.

On the occasion of the international Forum Unity in diversity, that
will take place in Florence from the 5th to the 8th November 2015,
organized by the Mayor Dario Nardella and by the City Councillor to
the international relations Nicoletta Mantovani, the mayors of a
hundred cities of the world actively involved in maintaining peace
and peaceful coexistence, reminding a similar initiative thought and
desired in 1965 by the Mayor of Florence Giorgio La Pira, will be
gathered in the city. The Sangalli Institute, following its vocation
in supporting young researchers, have decided to establish a
scholarship addressed to finance a young scholar, without any
restriction of nationality, whose purpose would be to conduct a
research plan on the subject of the coexistence and/or the settlement
of the religious conflicts within some urban backgrounds.

In collaboration with the Department for the international relations
of the Municipality of Florence, and with the patronage of the same
Municipality, the Sangalli Institute, with the participation of UBI –
Banco di Brescia, offers:

No. 1 pre-tax scholarship for a research concerning “Cities and
Religions. Past and Present for a Peaceful Coexistence” for an amount
of 6.000,00 (six thousand) euros.

The scholarship is addressed to already qualified Italian and Foreign

later than six years ago at the deadline of this announcement, in one
of the following thematic macro-areas: Anthropology, Religious
Sciences, Political Sciences, History, Art History, History of
Languages and Literatures, History of Ideas and Sociology.

research plan that the candidate wishes to develop at the Sangalli
Institute. The proposal will concern some aspects and problems of the
coexistence and/or the settlement of religious conflicts within some
urban contexts. Research plans about the past and the present, and
about European and non-European areas, will be admitted. The
appointment of the scholarship will be proclaimed at the
incontestable discretion of a Commitee composed by:

Culture, University and Research
