Call for Papers Theme: Moral Responsibility and Humanity Type: International Conference Institution: Council for Research in Values and Philosophy (RVP) Shangrao Normal University Renmin University of China Location: Shangrao (China) Date: 2.–3.7.2016 Deadline: 30.4.2016 __________________________________________________ Moral responsibility is one of the primary problems of humanity. As humans per se, we differ from animals, because the essential human existence as humans lies in his/her moral consciousness. Theoretically, the issues of moral responsibility, e.g., the free will, autonomy, motivation, causalityand determinism or non-determinism, etc., have been discussed for a long time in the history of ethics. Augustine made a great contribution to the discussion about free will and human moralresponsibility, as well as a significant impact on the human mind. Modern analytic philosophy had different perspectives focusing upon meta-ethics, moral psychology, freedom and responsibility. Chinese philosophy has its own emphasis on issues related to moral responsibility, such as approaches from mind or heart of Dao and humans, fundamental nature of humanity, relationships betweenjustice and interest/benefit, etc. As human beings we have responsibilities to people, society and the world, particularly in thesediverse and changing contemporary global times. We are responsible to others, to the environment, to nature, to our socio-political community, to our present and future. And compared to individual, how to understand groups’ or communities’ responsibility? All need to be thought through in order to generate new insights and ideas. This conference will be conducted in a multicultural context with scholars from as many cultures and philosophical backgrounds as possible, to discuss issues related to responsibility and humanity, so as to face the challenges and opportunity brought about by our global age.
