Researchers from a variety of disciplines have increasingly turned
their attention to the contemplation and investigation of place and
space. This increasing interest in place and space – and recognition
of their importance – has sent researchers in a range of new and
unpredictable directions. The resulting body of scholarship is
exciting, diverse, complex, challenging, and at times contradictory.
Turning towards place and space can therefore be an unsettling
experience. There are difficulties in conceptualising place and
space, and the relationship between these concepts is disputed.
Taking account of place and space also requires researchers to
re-think the deployment of spatial language and concepts in research
and analysis. And places and spaces themselves have the power to
unsettle those who dwell in, inhabit or pass through them.

With this in mind, this edited collection will examine the ways in
which considerations of place and/or space can be unsettling. It will
draw together researchers from across the disciplines in order to
chart the unsettled landscapes in which we find ourselves. We
therefore invite contributions from researchers from a range of
disciplinary perspectives who are interested in space and place that
speak to the key theme of unsettling, broadly conceived. We are
particularly interested in contributions that consider the ways in
which the turn to space and/or place might unsettle:

- Research practices
- Pedagogies
- Identities
- Ruralities
- Geographies (rural, urban, digital)
- Histories
- Politics
