Call for Applications Type: Scholarship in African Philosophy Institution: University of Fort Hare Location: Alice, Eastern Cape (South Africa) Date: Academic Year 2017 Deadline: 7.1.2017 __________________________________________________ The Isaac Shoai African Philosophy Fund is an educational endowment aimed at nurturing and supporting scholarship in African Philosophy with a special focus on African social thought. The fund provides scholarship for Honours (1 year) or Masters in Philosophy (2 years) degrees (not PhD) in the form of a stipend that covers the student’s full academic and living allowances at the University of Fort Hare for the duration of the academic programme. Applications are invited from candidates who meet the following conditions - BA with a Major in Philosophy to qualify for Honours in Philosophy. - Honours in Philosophy or equivalent degree to qualify for Masters in Philosophy (MA). - Area of research must be in African Philosophy, with preference given to political and social philosophy. - Above-average academic achievement. - Demonstrated financial need. - Preference will be for candidates from demographic and gender backgrounds that are poorly represented within the South African philosophical academy. - Candidates must be a citizen of a country that is a member of the African Union. - A willingness and ability to travel to Germany, as one of the successful candidates may be considered for a term fellowship under the University of Bayreuth-Fort Hare International Student Exchange Programme. Applicants to submit - A letter of application with a motivation addressing the above-stated criteria. - A certified copy of latest academic record or statement of academic results. - For Master scholarship: Additionally, a research-quality essay of no more than 1500 words outlining the intended subject of research.
