The theme of our 2019 convention is "Transnational Spaces:
Intersections of Cultures, Languages, and Peoples." It aims to
challenge traditional notions of history, territory, and identity and
to recognize the complex processes of trans-culturation that have
characterized modernity.

As the capital of the United States, Washington, DC, plays an
important role in shaping both national and global history. It is
vital that NeMLA bring its convention to this seat of power in order
to address the ongoing challenges we face in producing a world that
values diversity, honesty, scholarship, and justice.

NeMLA is a vital and congenial organization whose membership includes
both established and emerging scholars, and whose mission comprises
mentoring and promoting the next generation of scholars.
