Structure of the Conference

Simultaneous translation for full three days: English and Kiswahili
and French. Five parallel sessions running four-five times per day
for three days.

Seasoned and early career philosophers, humanities scholars and
scientists across these disciplines, are welcome to send abstracts to
share their critical insights, reflective conceptions, philosophical
perspectives, reasoned prophecies about their research in the larger
picture of Africans' and the wider world’s future policies and
practices, based upon Africans’ reflections upon African experiences.

We welcome papers that reflect upon the foundations, history and
future of knowledge practice, ethics, education, the prevailing
significance of social and political relationships, sciences and
technologies, jurisprudence, philosophy of medicine, bioethics,
metaphysics, phenomenology, comparative religions, commercial
corporate affairs, conducted in and about Africa and about the human
condition worldwide, illuminated through perspectives radiating from
Africa.

Abstracts are welcome in English, Kiswahili, and French (150-200
words maximum). Authors / co-authors send ONE abstract with your full

Suggested Themes

- the interface between the natural and social sciences, and
  professional studies such as business, medicine and law as these are
  developing in Africa

- varied applications of research results to enlightened development
  and everyday concerns of the wider communities surrounding African
  universities; the viability of standard and newly emerging
  methodologies for research

- the interface between the academy, religion, politics, social
  services

- metaphysical implications of work in the laboratory and in the
  field of African scientific investigation

- the place of Africans in the histories of the varied sciences and
  the profess ions

- Africans in the future of the global knowledge community and
  digital economy

- challenges and opportunities to apply higher learning to pursue
  newly acquired values, by engaging with government and social
  planning agencies as African university graduates and trainees
  throughout all the disciplines

- reflections of African scholars and researchers upon their cross
  disciplinary observations and experiences

- any discussions and thoughts about foundations, objectives, values
  within any of the disciplines which fall outside or which underlie
  the normal course of academic discourse and training within the
  sciences and professions

- whiteness studies from the perspective of different African
  regional scholars

First application deadline

April 30, 2019:
Acceptance advice on Abstracts – to accommodate time frames for
delegates seeking African institutional support for travel to
conferences

June 30, 2019:
End of registration – this allows for management of visa details and
arrangements for all delegates.


Essay Prize Competitions

Launching four Annual Philosophical Essay Prize Competitions for
Non-tenured Faculty

- Samir Amin Memorial Essay on Leadership in Africa’s Future
- John S. Mbiti Essay on African Philosophy and Religion
- Kwasi Wiredu Essay on African Metaphysics and Epistemology
- Sirkku Hellsten Memorial Essay on African Ethics of Governance and
  Corporate Responsibility

The winners of the maiden round of these annual prizes will be
awarded travel costs and accommodation to present their essays at the
conference and the winning essays will be published annually in the
current volume of UTAFITI Journal of African Perspectives.
