We intend to publish with an international publisher an edited volume
to examine and engage with the recent debates about, and challenges
towards, multiculturalism in Europe and Southeast Asia. A particular
focus will be on the management of ethnic, religious and cultural
diversities in the context of rising identity politics and the
polarization of societies aided by social media.

In order to discuss draft chapters and prepare a joint publication,
contributors to the volume will also be invited to a Workshop to be
held in Singapore on 14 and 15 June 2019.

We are looking for papers that examine the following issues and
debates, with preference given to contributions looking at discourses
and policies in Europe or Southeast Asia from a comparative
perspective:

- The myths and misconceptions surrounding multiculturalism and
  policies that promote multiculturalism
- Discourse / discursive construction of multiculturalism
- Challenges to Multicultural States in Asia and Europe
- The impact of migration on debates on multiculturalism, nationalism
and citizenship – the perception of threat that migrants bring to
national security, economic welfare, democratic citizenship and
  identity
- The comparative studies of the approaches within European societies
or Southeast Asian societies in accommodating and managing
  diversities and differences
- Identity politics and multiculturalism in Asia and Europe
- Digital technology and social media and their impact on
  multicultural society

Draft chapters to the book will be presented at the Workshop. The
draft paper should be submitted by 1 May 2019. The final versions of
the draft paper should take into account comments received during and
after the Workshop. The papers should be around 6000 words and should
make use of the APA Referencing style.
