Call for Applications Theme: Decolonizing Enlightenment Type: 2019 Chimborazo Summer School (CHSS) Institution: Department of Anthropology, History and the Humanities, Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) Location: Quito (Ecuador) Date: 5.–16.8.2019 Deadline: 24.7.2019 __________________________________________________ Chimborazo Summer School (CHSS) is a new, bilingual (English/español), two-week intensive certificate course based in Quito and designed for advanced students, professionals, academics and consultants in all disciplines, studies and fields of knowledge. It will be particularly of interest to those working in the anthropology, history and philosophy of science and knowledge. The CHSS is an initiative of the Department of Anthropology, History and the Humanities at FLACSO-Ecuador. The theme of the 2019 Summer School is "Decolonizing Enlightenment." Led by FLACSO emeritus professors Mark Thurner (University of London) and Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra (University of Texas), this edition of the CHHS coincides with the 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander von Humboldt. Participants will engage the most recent research, theory and debates on the critical place of Hispanic America in the global enlightenment. The 2019 School offers a unique opportunity for CHSS students to participate in several related Humboldtian academic and cultural events in Quito, including the LAGLOBAL symposium, "The Invention Of Humboldt" (12-13 August). The CHSS includes field trips to museums and historical and natural sites of interest, including the iconic Chimborazo Volcano.
