Call for Publications Theme: Normativity Beyond Borders Publication: Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective Date: No. 4/2020 Deadline: 1.9.2019 __________________________________________________ (Deutsche Version unten) The Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective is a forum for original research articles in political, moral, social, and legal philosophy, as well as in neighbouring disciplines that concentrate on or can be suitably related to, questions of a global dimension. The yearbook has two sections: section one features general research articles pertaining to the scope of the yearbook, and section two unites papers under a special topic that changes every year. The topic is the same as that of the annual symposia organised by the Rottendorf research and study project at the Munich School of Philosophy. Also, each yearbook includes an interview with a leading scholar on that topic as well as a summary of a recently published book, highlighting its significance for the field in German. We invite submissions to both the general section and the special section, the topic of which is “normativity beyond borders”, with invited articles by Sabine Döring and Regina Kreide, as well as an interview with Antje Wiener. Please submit your full papers (6.000 to 8.000 words, excluding footnotes and references) in Word or ODT, prepared for double-blind review, to the editor in chief Michael Reder ([email protected]), and [email protected] until the 1st of September 2019. Globalisation, pluralism, and intradisciplinary diversification challenge received understandings of practical reason, culture, politics, and value. Accordingly, many traditional problems – such as the justification of political order, the form and content of moral agency, or the constitution and relation of knowledge and power – are re-examined. Answers that had been taken for granted and appeals to institutions that we have become used to (e.g. the state) need to be revisited. Last but not least, a whole range of new problems has occurred in the context of climate change and as a result of the shortcomings of the global financial system. The Yearbook Practical Philosophy in a Global Perspective publishes in its general section original philosophical research articles that deal with any of these or with related problems, and it is open for contributions from neighbouring disciplines that clearly exhibit a philosophical orientation. Submissions to the Special Section: Normativity Beyond Borders Societies continue to be profoundly influenced by the cultural, political, legal, and economic processes of globalisation. They are confronted with complex structures and new agents, and it is yet to be seen whether and if so, how humanity will be able to recognise, understand, investigate, negotiate and solve the problems that arise from this unprecedented situation. Philosophers have made several suggestions, each trying to apply their respective, familiar normative theories to the global condition, and inviting us to, e.g. consider "which life we can save" globally, or working towards "human flourishing" in all countries. However, the underlying concepts of normativity themselves invite reflection. Can, or ought, global problems shed light on how we understand, criticise and justify the ‘good' and the ‘right'? Which new normative concepts do we need? What, if any, concept of normativity is applicable beyond its local context? Das Jahrbuch besteht aus einem allgemeinen Beitragsteil, in dem grundsätzliche Arbeiten zu diesem Themenfeld veröffentlicht werden, und einem Schwerpunktteil, der jedes Jahr unter ein neues Thema gestellt wird. Dieses Thema wird auch bei den jeweiligen Symposien des Forschungs- und Studienprojekts der Rottendorf-Stiftung an der Hochschule für Philosophie München behandelt. Jedes Jahrbuch enthält zudem ein Interview mit führenden Fachvertreter*innen, ausgehend vom Schwerpunktthema, sowie eine Zusammenfassung einer internationalen Neuerscheinung, um die Bedeutung des jeweiligen Buches herauszustellen. Hiermit bitten wir um Beiträge sowohl zum allgemeinen Beitragsteil als auch zum Schwerpunktteil, in dem es in diesem Jahr um das Thema „Grenzenlose Normativität“ geht und der eingeladene Beiträge von Sabine Döring und Regina Kreide sowie ein Interview mit Antje Wiener versammelt. Bis zum 1. September 2019 können ausgearbeitete Forschungsartikel (6000 bis 8000 Wörter, exkl. Weitere Informationen finden sich auf: https://www.herder.de/jbprph/ Einreichungen zum allgemeinen Beitragsteil Die praktische Philosophie beschäftigt sich heute mit globalen Fragen in unterschiedlicher Weise: Vor dem Hintergrund der Globalisierung müssen traditionelle Probleme – wie etwa die Begründung politischer Ordnung, Modus und Inhalt ethischen Handelns, oder Verfasstheit und Verhältnis von Episteme und Macht – jenseits eurozentrischer Denkgewohnheiten neu verhandelt werden. Selbstverständlich erscheinende Antworten, die auf den Staat oder andere „klassisch“ gewordene Akteure verweisen, werden zunehmend fragwürdig. Nicht zuletzt sind mit den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels und den Unzulänglichkeiten des globalen Finanzsystems ganz neue Problemlagen entstanden. Das Jahrbuch Praktische Philosophie in globaler Perspektive veröffentlicht in seinem allgemeinen Beitragsteil Arbeiten, die sich in diesem Problemfeld verorten, und ist offen für Arbeiten aus benachbarten Disziplinen, die philosophisch anschlussfähig sind. Einreichungen zum Schwerpunktteil: Normativität jenseits von Grenzen Die Globalisierung ist seit 25 Jahren eines der prägendsten gesellschaftlichen Phänomene. Dies gilt gleichermaßen für Politik und Ökonomie wie für Kultur und lebensweltliche Kontexte. Die Philosophie hat wie viele andere Wissenschaften in vielfacher Weise auf dieses Phänomen reagiert. Das Spezifikum vieler dieser Arbeiten besteht darin, dass sie normative Fragen – nach dem Guten, dem Gerechten, dem Gebotenen oder Verbotenen – im Kontext globaler Problemlagen neu aufwerfen. Dabei bauen viele Ansätze auf bisherigen normativen Paradigmen auf (deontisch, utilitaristisch, eudaimonistisch usw.) und transformieren deren Konzeptionen von Normativität mit Blick auf globale Themen und Probleme neu. Dabei geht es beispielsweise um Fragen globaler Gerechtigkeit, der Universalisierung von Demokratie oder die normative Begründung globaler Institutionen. Mit Bezug auf die politische Sphäre diskutiert auch die politische Philosophie gegenwärtig intensiv über die Begrenzungen traditioneller Konzepte von Normativität – bis hin zu ihrem ideologischen Charakter, der mit Blick auf konkrete politische Krisen analysiert wird. Zentrale Fragen dieses Themenfelds sind u.a.: Wie lässt sich Normativität in einer globalisierten Welt überzeugend verstehen, kritisieren oder auch begründen? Wie werden die Anpassung und Erweiterung des Normativitätskonzepts angesichts globaler Transformationen argumentativ vollzogen und welche neuen Begründungen und Methoden entstehen? An welchen konkreten Feldern lässt sich diese Entwicklung besonders gut aufzeigen und diskutieren?
