Rapid technological development and the digital means of communication that shape current world affairs have hindered as much as they have helped understanding and dialogue amongst – and within – cultures and traditions. The aftermath of political instability, labor migration and political refugee flows have raised the curtain on the potential for political extremism and discrimination in a variety of national contexts. To contribute to the self-understanding and mutual understanding of the sources and legacies of tolerance in Mediterranean societies, the 2019 Casablanca Seminars will particularly focus on the historical, institutional and textual sources of tolerance in Muslim societies. Participants will also draw comparisons with non-Islamic traditions and will bring perspectives from theology, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology and legal studies to address the intellectual and political challenges that transcend traditions and borders. Languages: English and Arabic. A simultaneous translation from English to Arabic and vice-versa will be provided. Students, young scholars, researchers, journalists, and media professionals in the field of humanities and social sciences are welcome to participate in the Reset Dialogues on Civilizations International Conference and Summer School that will take place in Casablanca from the 8th to the 20th of July 2019.
