Call for Papers Theme: Shared Values and Differences in Society-Individual Dilemma Type: 5th International Symposium on Religious Studies and Global Peace Institution: Turkey Members of Imam Hatips Foundation (TIMAV) Mardin Artuklu University Location: Mardin (Turkey) Date: 6.–7.11.2019 Deadline: 20.9.2019 __________________________________________________ From family which is the smallest social unity and organization to city and state, from city and state to global existence, in each stage and social condition the position of the individual in the whole which it belongs is important. Especially recently, with the rapid globalization the relationships, break downs, obligations, separations and the division of labor between society and individual has become the focus of interdisciplinary scientific curiosity. The entire philosophical and social scientific doctrines that emerged in 19th century and the twentieth century ideas were particularly dedicated to understand the relations between society and the individual. The central issue of liberal economic and legal models which have had a great impact all over the world after the World War II is the relations between society and the individual. In social contracts and practices, it is not easy to find the balance between the rights, authority and the freedoms of individuals and the obligations, responsibilities and individual workload arising from the coexistence of the individuals. The corporate world is almost a world that arises from the regulation of relations between one and many. The common demand, necessity and acceptance of each person in the global scale social change process is to be able to live in a normed social order without having to give up and deny oneself. In this period where the end of globalization is discussed, it is likely to witness the increasing decrease of trust in interpersonal communication and relations and mass of people receding from each other. This requires both redetermination and redefinition of the shared values and differences in the dilemma between society and the individual. In each determination, the structure and functioning of the society changes as well as the position and response of the individual. Thus, in today’s world; the most current and unresolved problematics of many disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, anthropology, ethnology, economics, psychology, political science, international relations, history, geography, law and theology are the re-determination of the variable boundaries and the norms of society-individual interaction over and over again according to the era. Many concepts arising from the dilemma between society and the individual are the subject of interdisciplinary research and studies. One of the most important reasons in the emergence of concepts such as identity, belonging, difference, body, culture, other, tradition, innovation, extremism, values, recognition policies, subject, power, overlapping consensus, communicative action, post-modernism, globalization, social media and self is to reach a sustainable harmony between society and the individual. Reflecting on the possibilities of not only conceptual but also factual harmony between society and the individual, making researches and discussions about it is a common task of both intellectual and academic circles. Recommendations that can be developed to re-establish the reduced trust among people and individual’s embracement of society are the common goal of academic research and debate on society-individual dilemma. The fifth International Symposium on Religious Studies and Global Peace will be held in Mardin in 2019 with the theme of “Shared Values and Differences in Society-Individual Dilemma”. The aim of this symposium is to determine the real factual implications of the two concepts for a lasting peace and to be a guide in this context. All interested followers, more specifically domestic and foreign academics, researchers, intellectuals, poets, artists, teachers, students and NGO members and representatives may apply to the symposium. We think that all intellectual and academic contributions concerning the society-individual dilemma from all branches of social sciences are valuable. They should not be compilations. Oral and poster abstracts (not more than one page) should be written in a “Microsoft Word” file (doc. – docx. format) in Turkish, Arabic or English. Subject title, lower dash and name of the participant who will make the presentation should be given as file name (eg: religionandart_johnsmith) to the abstract while saving. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words.
