Theme: Cross-cultural Ethics Textbook
Publication: Edited Book
Deadline: 31.10.2019

Almost all ethics textbooks either remain mono-cultural or offer only
non-specialist chapters on ethics outside the western tradition. That
seems to me unfortunate; and so I’d like to propose to colleagues a
substantial cross-cultural ethics textbook, aimed at undergraduates,
with expert contributions on, for example:

- Confucian tradition
- Hindu traditions
- Buddhist traditions
- Islamic traditions
- Ubuntu and related traditions
- Western traditions: Judaeo-Christianity; virtue ethics,
  utilitarianism, Kant

The idea would be to have an editor, or joint editors, set out a
pedagogically inclusive template for the textbook, and to work with
appropriate experts in the relevant fields to produce what to my
knowledge would be the first textbook of its sort.

Open Book Publishers, who work on a free to download basis and do not
charge authors for publication, have signalled their interest in such
a project. My own role, I hasten to add, is envisaged as no more than
facilitative.

If this appeals to you, as either a single or a joint editor, or a
specialist contributor, please email me with your ideas (no more than
one side of paper) by 31 October 2019: [email protected]
