Conference Announcement Theme: On Love and Compassion Subtitle: Chan/Zen Buddhism and Carmelite Spirituality Type: 2nd World Encounter Teresian Mysticism and Interreligious Dialogue Institution: International Centre of Teresian and Sanjuanist Studies (CITeS), University of Mysticism Centre of Buddhist Studies, University of Hong Kong Location: Avila (Spain) – Online Date: 26.–30.7.2022 __________________________________________________ (Versión española abajo) In times of divisions amongst cultures, interreligious dialogue has become an urgent need. In light of this, the International Centre of Teresian and Sanjuanist Studies (CITeS) in Ávila, Spain, announced in 2016 its intention to conduct a series of interreligious encounters, placing Carmelite spirituality in dialogue with other religious traditions. The first of these events, “1st. World Encounter Teresian Mysticism and Interreligious Dialogue Theravāda Buddhism and Teresian Mysticism: Meditation and Contemplation Pathways to Peace”, took place in Ávila from the 27th to the 30th of July 2017 and was organized by CITeS in collaboration with the Centre of Buddhist Studies (CBS) of The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Following the success of this event, CITeS decided on a second congress, the “2nd World Encounter Teresian Mysticism and Interreligious Dialogue. Chan/Zen Buddhism and Carmelite Spirituality: on Love and Compassion”, which will take place in Ávila, from 26th to 30th of July 2022, and will also be jointly organized by CITeS and CBS. CITeS would like to extend a most cordial invitation to our brothers and sisters of the Chan/Zen school of Buddhism to participate in the event. It is the earnest wish of CITeS to deepen the mutual understanding of both traditions’ beliefs and practices. It must be emphasized that there is absolutely no wish to deny the differences between the two traditions or attempt to reduce them to a common denominator. Instead, the dialogue will be conducted in the spirit of equality, deep respect, openness and wish for cooperation. The aim is to foster genuine engagement, enhance mutual growth, and explore ways of cooperation to approach the pressing social and environmental concerns of today and help improve the welfare of mankind. Encuentro Mundial Mística Teresiana y Diálogo Interreligioso En tiempos de división entre culturas, el diálogo interreligioso se ha convertido en una necesidad urgente. A la luz de ello, el Centro Internacional Teresiano-Sanjuanista (CITeS) de Ávila, España, anunció en 2016 su intención de llevar a cabo una serie de encuentros interreligiosos para establecer un diálogo entre la espiritualidad carmelita y otras tradiciones religiosas. El primero de estos encuentros, el «Primer Encuentro Mundial Mística Teresiana y Diálogo Interreligioso. Budismo Theravada y Mística Teresiana: meditación y contemplación, caminos hacia la paz», tuvo lugar en Ávila entre el 27 y el 30 de julio de 2017 y fue organizado por CITeS en colaboración con el Centro de Estudios Budistas (CBS) de la Universidad de Hong Kong (HKU). Tras el éxito de este encuentro, CITeS decidió hacer un segundo congreso, el «Segundo Encuentro Mundial Mística Teresiana y Diálogo Interreligioso. Budismo chan/zen y espiritualidad carmelita: sobre el amor y la compasión», que tendrá lugar en Ávila del 26 al 30 de julio de 2022 y que será organizado en colaboración entre CITeS y CBS. CITeS quiere hacer llegar su más cordial invitación a los hermanos y hermanas de la escuela de budismo chan/zen para que participen en el encuentro. CITeS desea sinceramente profundizar en el entendimiento mutuo de las creencias y prácticas de ambas tradiciones. Es necesario hacer hincapié en que no existe ningún deseo de negar las diferencias entre las dos tradiciones ni ningún intento de reducirlas a un común denominador. En lugar de eso, el diálogo será conducido con ecuanimidad, un profundo respeto y apertura de miras y el deseo de cooperación. El objetivo es promover una unión genuina que propicie el crecimiento mutuo y explore caminos para afrontar las urgentes preocupaciones sociales y medioambientales actuales y ayudar a mejorar el bienestar de la humanidad.
