Job Announcement Type: Assistant Professor in Indigenous Philosophy Institution: Department of Philosophy, Ryerson University Location: Toronto, ON (Canada) Date: from July 2022 Deadline: 1.1.2022 __________________________________________________ Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University invites applications for a tenure track position with an Area of Specialization in Indigenous Philosophy, broadly construed, at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2022, subject to final budgetary approval. This opportunity is only open to individuals who identify as Indigenous. Recognizing the underrepresentation of Indigenous faculty, this opportunity will support the University’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action and the University's Standing Strong Task Force Report and Recommendations. The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties, maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Responsibilities will include: pursuing an original and independent research program that produces high-quality research; engaging in teaching duties (2+2 course load, which is the Department teaching standard) including teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervising graduate students and contributing to curriculum development as appropriate; and participating in the academic life of the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, the Indigenous community on campus, and the University, through service activities. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Philosophy or a closely related field by the appointment date. Candidates who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) and are able to demonstrate that they are close to completion will also be considered. In addition, the successful candidate must present evidence of: - a strong program of established or emerging scholarly research that is active, innovative, and impactful; - the ability, or potential, to be an excellent teacher and successfully supervise undergraduate and graduate students; - a commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and - a strong commitment to Indigenous knowledges and methodologies and to developing curriculum that supports Indigenous pedagogies and education more generally; - an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Philosophy Department, Indigenous community on campus, and the University through collegial service.
