Overview

The Summer School on Human Rights, Minorities and Diversity
Governance is a stimulating postgraduate programme organized by the
Institute for Minority Rights of Eurac Research in South Tyrol,
Italy. The two-week interdisciplinary summer school provides a unique
opportunity to postgraduate students, civil servants, journalists,
NGO workers and others interested in expanding their knowledge on
human and minority rights, diversity and territorial governance. The
Summer School follows an active learning approach and participants
are encouraged to engage with the course material presented by
international experts from academia and beyond through workshops,
role plays, case studies, and study visits. The programme has a
different thematic focus each year.

Content and Objective

The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of South Tyrol’s autonomy.
The 2022 Summer School celebrates this anniversary by exploring the
theme of “Autonomies, Borders, Conflicts” through seminars, workshops
and study visits led by international experts.

Topics include:
- Autonomy arrangements in a comparative perspective
- Autonomy as a tool of conflict resolution
- Autonomy, sovereignty conflicts and secession
- Indigenous autonomies in Latin America and Australia
- Migration in autonomous regions

Date and Venue

We are planning an in-person programme that will take place in the
period 4–15 July 2022 at Eurac Research in Bolzano/Bozen (South
Tyrol, Italy).

According to current rules, participants will be required to either
have proof of vaccination with a vaccine authorized in the European
Union or proof of recovery within the past six months of the 2022
Summer School. In addition, there might be further requirements such
as keeping a distance while being in class or wearing a face mask to
keep all participants safe. Please keep in mind that these rules are
subject to change depending on the given regulations by the state,
provincial authorities and Eurac Research at the time of our Summer
School. We will keep all participants updated! The Summer School will
be moved online if required by the pandemic situation.

Application

To apply for the Summer School, candidates have to submit a completed
online application form. In the application form you will be asked to
submit:

- personal data
- relevant academic and professional education
- work experience (if applicable)
- statement of motivation

Fees & Scholarships

Tuition fee: The tuition fee for the two-week Summer School is 400
Euro. This fee covers: course materials, guided tours in
Bolzano/Bozen, access to the library of Eurac Research, internet
access, weekday lunches (Mon-Fri). The fee does not cover:
accommodation, meals (except weekday lunches), travel costs and other
expenses not listed above.

Tuition fee waivers: We offer several tuition fee waivers worth 400
Euro or 200 Euro. Selection is based on merit and need.
