Refleksi : Apakah Kalla tidak salah mengucapkan 3 bulan atau 3 tahun
disingkat menjadi 3 hari? Insyaalloh 3 hari adalah 3 hari.

Power, Water in Padang Quake Zone Back to Normal Soon, Says Kalla

Basic services such as electricity, water, fuel and communications should be
back to normal in the quake-stricken areas of West Sumatra within two or three
days, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said on Saturday.

Kalla visited the disaster zone and met with members of the provincial
government. He said 60 percent of the electricity had already been restored to
the area.

The number of people known to have died in the quake continues rising, Kalla
noted.

"The death toll up to now is 535. And 303 are missing," he said. He added that
other, higher estimates may have registered some deaths both at hospitals and
in the victims' home villages.

A U.N. official said earlier in the week that 1,100 people had died.

The Vice President added that local officials would identify and catalog all
damaged buildings within two weeks.

"The government will help rebuild houses; we will provide them with funds.
Commercial buildings that have insurance will be taken care of by the
insurance companies," he said.

Kalla expressed gratitude to other nations for their aid. He said so far, the
assistance from abroad had all been in the form of supplies, but the Finance
Ministry may soon establish an account for cash donations as well.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra governor Gamawan Fauzi said schools and government
offices would reopen at the beginning of next week.

"All students and teachers, they should get back to school on Monday," he said
after meeting with Kalla.

Students whose classrooms were destroyed may have to study in tents, "but at
least they will get back to class," he said. He added that students and
teachers could also help clean up their damaged schools to prepare them for
rehabilitation.

The governor said he would ensure that public servants resumed their duties.

"I will check it myself. Everyone should be working in their offices on
Monday," he said.
