Russian communists protest utility price hikes The Associated Press , Moscow | Sat, 01/23/2010 8:12 PM | World Hundreds of communists have rallied in central Moscow ostensibly to protest a rise in the price of utilties - but capitalizing on the occasion to knock the free markets as a whole. Several hundred communist supporters braved the freezing Moscow air Saturday as they chanted "down with capitalist slavery" and "no to criminal theft," against a backdrop of winter sunshine. Dressed in fur hats and waving hammer-and-sickle flags, the communists were led by Vladimir Kashin, deputy head of the Communist Party. Russian inflation has been in the double digits in the post-90s period of relative stability, though it has eased more recently to 8.8 percent in 2009.
