JAKARTA, Indonesia: Indonesian police say gunmen have attacked a convoy of
buses near the world's largest gold mine in Papua, wounding seven people
including one foreigner.

Papua police spokesman Col. Agus Rianto said the convoy was attacked Sunday
morning as it traveled from the Grasberg mine to the town of Timika.

He said those wounded included one foreigner, four policemen, another worker
and a child.

A spokesman in Indonesia for Freeport, the mine operator, confirmed the attack
but refused to give further details pending verification.

Rianto said the foreigner and two policemen were evacuated to Jakarta for
treatment.

The mine has been repeatedly targeted with arson, roadside bombs and blockades
since production began in the 1970s.
