Indonesia: Bursting at the seams

Can the country that is already battling poverty and pollution avoid a
population explosion?
101 East Last Modified: 30 Aug 2011 12:25

Indonesia is now the world's fourth most populous nation with nearly 240
million people. And the numbers are continuing to surge. At current growth
rates, one in 20 people in the world will be Indonesian by the year 2045.

The country already battles poverty, waste management, pollution, floods and
traffic jams as an ever-expanding population strains existing resources. Fears
for food and water security have sparked new efforts to control birth rates.

101 East travels to Indonesia to ask if it can avoid a population explosion.

      101 East airs each week at the following times GMT: Thursday: 2230;
Friday: 0930; Saturday: 0330; Sunday: 1630.
