Want to get married in Bungo? Recite Koranic verses first

Bungo Religious Affairs Agency in Jambi will require residents to be able to
recite the Koran before they can marry.

“We will revive the old tradition of reciting the Koran before marriage,” the
agency official Ismail Rangkuti said Wednesday.

He said he expected the program would improve residents’ awareness of the
importance of reading the holy book and encourage parents to teach their
children to read the Koran.

“Parents will pay more attention to teaching their children to read Koran
because if they don’t know how to read the Koran they will not be able to get
married,” said Ismail.

He added that it would also improve the performance of contract religion
instructors (PAHs) in all areas of the region.

“PAHs should be more active in educating children on the Koran,” he said.(iwa)
