menuai badai “

Police say bomb-making materials have been found at a house in Indonesia’s
capital and they are investigating possible links to terrorism.

Jakarta police spokesman Col. Rikwanto said Thursday that residents rushed to
Muhammad Toriq’s home in Jakarta as plumes of smoke shot up from the house late
Wednesday, and found explosive devices. Toriq escaped.

“We can ensure [that he is a terrorist] after finding explosive materials in
his home during a crime scene investigation,” he said on Wednesday as quoted by
Antara news agency.

Rikwanto added that the explosive materials were most likely used to make a
bomb. He commented that he would be coordinating with anti-terrorist police
squad Densus 88 in order to find out which terrorist network he belongs to.

West Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Suntana said that it wasn't known yet if
Toriq is connected with the terrorists from Solo that recently attacked police.

“Toriq is on a [police] observation list and has been known to be part of
terrorist organizations, but he is still being investigated,” Suntana said, as
quoted by Beritajakarta.com.

Subagio, a neighborhood unit chief of the Jembatan Besi region, said that
Toriq’s neighbors saw the smoke coming out of his house on Wednesday at 2:30
PM. Afterward, they went to his home to find out what had taken place.

Toriq then told them that nothing happened and shut the door. Because the
residents were worried about a possible fire, they broke into the house while
others phoned police.

“When his neighbors and I broke into the house, Toriq ran away,” Subagio said.
“We found many bomb-making materials in his house, including gunpowder,
chemical liquid, pipes and cables.”

A bomb squad team is investigating the explosives. Rikwanto says the devices
were packed with ball bearings and nails to maximize the impact of the blast.

“Toriq is a reserved person — he doesn’t talk much,” Subagio said, adding that
Toriq sells phone credits for a living.

He is known to be member of a Quran recital community named Al Qidayah.

Indonesia has been hit by a string of terror attacks blamed on al-Qaeda-linked
militants that have killed more than 260 people since 2002.
